Some time early Tuesday morning (June 18), Rihanna passed Justin Bieber as the most-viewed artist on YouTube. The 77 videos on Rihanna's official VEVO channel now have a combined 3.784 billion views in total, surpassing the total view counts of the 79 videos on Bieber's official VEVO channel by roughly two million views.
Rihanna surpassing Bieber's popularity on YouTube is largely due to the size of her subscriber base. Rihanna has 8.73 million subscribers on the platform, 3.7 million more than Bieber's 4.9 million. This means that while the average Bieber fan is much more engaged than Rihanna's, Rihanna has much broader reach as an artist and is therefore able to secure more view counts to her name over time.
This discrepancy in fan-base stays true on the Facebook platform, where Justin Bieber's 54.3 million "likes" on the platform dwarfs Rihanna's 72.3 million. However, it's not the case on Twitter, where Bieber overtook Lady Gaga back in January as the most followed person on the platform and has just recently became the first person to surpass 40 million followers.
Other artist-specific channels that populate the YouTube view count leaderboard are PSY at No. 3 (3.1 billion views), followed by Eminem (2.4 billion views), Lady Gaga (2.25 billion views) and Shakira (2 billion).

Britney Spears has that loving feeling on her brand-new single, "Ooh La La." The singer officially released the Dr. Luke-produced tune on Monday, serving as the lead single off the "Smurfs 2" soundtrack.
With its bouncy beat, the track has a summery vibe as Britney sings about her crush in her signature coo: "Ooh my my baby don't be shy/ I see that spark flashing in your eye/ My heart beats fast 'cause I want it all/ So baby come with me and be my ooh la la."
While the poppy track remains family-friendly and lighthearted, there is some edge thrown on there as it breaks down and gets synthier towards the end for the bridge section. In addition to working with Luke, she also recruited Ammo and Cirkut as well Bonnie McKee, J Kash, Lola Blanc and Fransisca Hall. The film opens July 31.
So, what does it all mean? Well, Spears called into Ryan Seacrest's radio show to explain. "Yeah it's definitely straight-up pop and it's really has a young feel to it," she explained. "But the main reason why I did it was because my boys. They're obsessed with the Smurfs. We've seen 'The Smurfs' movie a million trillion times and they were told they could be in the video and all this cool stuff, so that's the reason why I did it. It's about feeling good. Like when a guy makes you giddy. It's more of a feeling. When I eat chocolate I have that 'ooh la la' feeling."
The Marc Klasfeld-directed music video, co-starring her sons Jayden James, 6, and Sean Preston, 7, will premiere in the coming weeks. "[My sons] were actually really, really good on set," Britney said. "They play themselves ... [but when] we did the actual shoot of the video I didn't see [them]. I was in hair and makeup, so later on I got to see what they actually did on camera and it was adorable."
During the interview, Spears also danced around the possibility of taking over Las Vegas with a long-rumored residency. She played it coy, despite having opened up about it to Shape magazine earlier this spring, sharing "It's quite possible, yes. Yes, nothing confirmed, yet."
And while "Ooh La La" is for her boys, she clarified that her upcoming album, which she is currently working on with will.i.am serving as executive producer, will be for her adult fans.
"Well it's definitely the beginning stages right now. I want to take this album and have a new approach with it and make it different from anything I've ever done," she explained about her follow-up to 2011's Femme Fatale.
She continued, "There's a lot of guitar and I think people will be surprised with this album. Actually I think William Orbit [Madonna's producer] is coming in next week for me to work with. I've never worked with him before; I'm really excited. I think the kids will appreciate it but I think it will have a cool approach to it. [it should be out] by the end of the year."

One Direction are reported to have hired a $2million luxury yacht in Florida in a bid for some peace and quiet from their fans.
When Bono calls, you answer. The U2 frontman has enlisted the help of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, will.i.am, Mumford & Sons, Ed Sheeran and more for Agit8, a One Campaign initiative that pays homage to the greatest protest songs in history.
The music compilation aims to raise awareness about poverty issues at next week's G8 Summit, when leaders of eight of the world's wealthiest countries will meet in Northern Ireland to discuss global issues.
The tunes, which are available for fans to stream now, were recorded by 50 artists from all genres and include old-school hits by the likes of Bob Dylan and Donovan to more modern tracks by artists like Macklemore as well as Tupac (whose "Changes" is covered by Disiz & Freddy Evans).
On the compilation, Sheeran put his own new-age folk stamp on Dylan's classic "Masters of War" and Mumford & Sons are joined by Elvis Costello for a cover Bruce Springsteen's "The Ghost of Tom Joad."
While some artists covered the classics, others offered the campaign their own tunes. Those cuts include "Same Love" by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (who is joined by singer/songwriter Cam Nacson on the release), "Diamonds From Sierra Leone" by Kanye West, will.i.am's "It's a New Day" and "Paper Planes" by MIA.

Mumford & Sons bassist Ted Dwane will undergo surgery to remove a blood clot from his brain, forcing the band to cancel three shows scheduled for this week. The English group announced the news in a statement on their website.
"Our friend and bandmate Ted has been feeling unwell for a few days, and yesterday he was taken to a hospital to receive emergency treatment," the band wrote. "The scans revealed a blood clot on the surface of his brain that requires an operation. Ted is receiving excellent care and we are being assured that he will recover quickly from surgery.
Dwane's emergency surgery means the band won't play shows scheduled for Dallas tonight, the Woodlands, Texas, on Wednesday and New Orleans on Thursday. The band says make-up shows will be scheduled and announced as soon as possible. The tour is expected to resume Saturday at Bonnaroo in Tennessee. "We have no plans to cancel or postpone any other appearances along this current tour," the band wrote.
Mumford & Sons are on the road behind last year's album Babel. The group also recently teamed with Elvis Costello to cover Bruce Springsteen's song "The Ghost of Tom Joad" for the One Campaign's agit8 anti-poverty initiative.

With his single “Blurred Lines” burning up the charts, Robin Thicke is not wasting any time. The R&B crooner has set a release date for his sixth album, Blurred Lines.

The first single featuring Pharrell and T.I. has become the singer’s highest-charting hit in the U.S., thanks in part to the explicit video. The song moves up to No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week.
It is also the fastest-selling single of the year in the U.K., selling 190,000 copies in its first week on sale.
